Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) launched Yard 3040, named Shreyas, at its Kolkata yard on 10 October 2026. The Ministry of Defence identifies it as a Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), intended for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, humanitarian assistance and anti-piracy missions. The launch confirms a construction milestone; the announcement gives no vessel-specific readiness or delivery date: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=2321795&lang=1&reg=3

A March 2023 contract release says the 11 NGOPVs were awarded to GRSE and Goa Shipyard Limited, with four vessels assigned to GRSE and seven to Goa Shipyard. It scheduled programme deliveries to commence from September 2026. The release does not give Shreyas a delivery slot: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1912286&lang=2&reg=48

That programme milestone cannot establish when Shreyas will enter service. A launch alone does not show that outfitting, systems integration, trials or Navy acceptance are complete. The two Ministry releases reviewed provide no vessel-specific dates for those steps.

Timeline

30 March 2023: The Ministry of Defence signs contracts for 11 NGOPVs; programme deliveries are scheduled to begin in September 2026.

10 October 2026: GRSE launches Yard 3040, Shreyas, at Kolkata.

Next milestone: No trial, acceptance or delivery date for Shreyas appears in the releases reviewed.

A vessel-specific trial or acceptance notice would clarify the remaining path to delivery. Until then, the programme schedule should not be read as Shreyas’s delivery date.
