NHAI plans to fit retrofit emission-control devices (RECDs) to 25 diesel generator sets serving Package IV of Dwarka Expressway, an 8.7-km section in Haryana. Its 9 October announcement says the generators support lighting and associated expressway operations. The proposed scope includes installation, testing, commissioning and comprehensive maintenance.

The work sits within an existing air-quality framework. The Commission for Air Quality Management’s amended Direction 76 adjusted capacity bands as certified devices became available for generator sets down to 41 kW. NHAI has not published ratings for the 25 sets, so their individual applicability cannot be checked from the announcement.

What the record can show

NHAI says it will keep GPS-tagged photographs of the installations. Those can help establish where devices were fitted. They cannot, on their own, show whether the equipment meets its performance standard across operating conditions, how long the generators run, or how much pollution is reduced. The release gives no baseline or post-installation readings, test protocol, device make, contract value, maintenance interval or installation date.

The distinction matters: a device count would document rollout, while emissions readings would show whether the intervention is working. The agency has said testing and commissioning are included, but has not said whether the results will be made public.

Timeline

9 October 2026: NHAI announces planned RECD installation on 25 DG sets at Package IV. The next useful milestone is commissioning with published device ratings and test results. No date for that milestone is public.
